At 173 million francs (previous year: 118 million francs), Swiss Post’s operating profit is at a level comparable to the results for 2023 and 2024. Group profit stands at 139 million francs, while operating revenue amounts to 3,670 million francs. The result was partly due to a 5.6 percent increase in the volume of parcels sent by customers. However, improved investment performance and lower personnel expenses at PostFinance, as well as simplified processes and price adjustments at Swiss Post, also played a part. Despite this positive performance, there is still a need for action: “Every franc of revenue ultimately comes down to less than 5 centimes in EBIT,” explains Alex Glanzmann, Head of Finance at Swiss Post. “We finance the universal service with this income, which costs us around 365 million francs each year. And we use it to expand the digital services our customers want and to develop our infrastructure. With declining volumes of letters and over-the-counter transactions, a range of measures is needed to maintain the results at this level. We’re continuing to pursue this path consistently.”
Swiss Post develops modern services that meet specific needs
In the first half of 2026, letter volumes fell by a further 5 percent, while over-the-counter inpayments declined by 11 percent. These are not outliers, they are part of an irreversible trend: over the last ten years, the volume of letters sent by customers is down 38 percent. Cash inpayments declined by 68 percent. At the same time, more and more customers are turning to digital services: around 630,000 users have now enabled receipt of digital letters in the Post-App – three times as many as this time last year. The new “My digital mail” service has over 1.4 million users, and the Post-App was used 38.3 million times in the first six months of the year. That is a 57.6 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This shows that Swiss Post is developing new products and services that meet the needs of its customers.
Strengthening the core business, focusing growth, becoming faster
However, the new products and services and the growth in parcel volumes cannot yet offset the decline in letters and cash inpayments. Swiss Post is therefore strengthening its core business in logistics, communication, mobility and financial services, and focusing primarily on organic growth. For example, Swiss Post is investing around 200 million francs in a new regional parcel center in Frauenfeld, allowing it to sort up to 12,000 parcels per hour from the end of 2029. Swiss Post will also continue to simplify its internal processes and reduce its costs, as it has recently done with efficiency measures in its IT unit. The price adjustments Swiss Post has announced are another necessary measure that it has taken in response to the need for action. At the same time, it is important to ensure Swiss Post continues to evolve in line with customer needs, but also that the universal service obligation is modernized. The political processes needed to achieve this are currently under way.
