A second lease of life for your favourite items: give the gift of joy and earn something too
How many favourite items do you have in your wardrobe, basement or attic? A jacket that’s never worn? A book that you no longer read? A chest of drawers that just needs a new coat of paint? They all have one thing in common: they could bring joy to others. And every one of us can decide whether to give things as a gift or to receive a small contribution.
Secondhand Day 2026: reselling is climate protection in action
On 14 November 2026, around 700 Circular Heroes will bring the Secondhand Day to life throughout Switzerland. The focus is on reusing, reselling, repairing and exchanging items. If you pass on clothing, furniture or books, you enable them to be used for longer and keep resources in the cycle. If the item replaces a new purchase, it means CO₂ emissions are avoided.
Switzerland has been actively involved for some time. More than 56% of the population already buy and sell on platforms such as Ricardo, tutti and anibis.
Swiss Post makes shipping easy
Selling is quick, but then parcels still have to reach the buyer. This is where Swiss Post comes in. Together with Ricardo, it’s supporting Secondhand Day 2026 and promoting the Swiss re-commerce and second-hand market. On request, Swiss Post can collect parcels conveniently from your home and deliver them reliably. With the Post-App, you can keep track of your consignments at all times, whether you’re sending or receiving them.
On Secondhand Day, Swiss Post and Ricardo are working together to make it easy for used your favourite items to find a new home. From 9 November, Ricardo sellers can look forward to a special Ricardo promotion. You’ll find out more about this soon.
It’s well worth taking part!
It’s easy to get involved: select an item in good condition at home that you no longer use. Take a photo of the item, describe its condition and list it on Ricardo – or send it to someone who’ll enjoy it. You can also find second-hand shops, repair cafés and swap initiatives in your local area on the Circular Heroes Map at secondhandday.ch. Deliberately scheduled before Black Friday, Secondhand Day invites you to take a look at what already exists when you next make a purchase.
