Public service as a political mandate

We have a political mandate: to provide reliable, high-quality postal services across Switzerland.

In Kürze

What is public service?

Public service means services that we are legally required to provide for people across Switzerland.

Available everywhere

Our postal services are available across Switzerland - in cities, municipalities and rural areas.

Affordable for everyone

We are required to offer key services at fair and transparent prices.

Reliable and modern

We make sure our services remain reliable and improve them as needs change.

Our public service for Switzerland

Our public service includes universal postal service and regional passenger transport with PostBus. In this way, we connect people, businesses, municipalities and regions throughout Switzerland.

How we fulfil the universal service mandate

The universal service mandate defines which services we must provide. These key figures show how we fulfil the mandate throughout Switzerland.

  • Letters, parcels, newspapers

We transport addressed letters and parcels and deliver subscription newspapers and magazines. These services are part of the universal postal service.

  • Five-day delivery

We deliver letters and parcels five days a week. We deliver newspapers six days a week, as required by law.

  • 5,000 access points

We provide postal services across Switzerland – through branches, partners, self-service terminals and home service.

  • Within 20 minutes

90% of the population can reach postal and payment services within 20 minutes, as required by law.

  • High delivery quality

Around 97% of letters and 95% of parcels arrive on time – above the minimum standards.

  • Basic financial services

We provide cash deposits and withdrawals across Switzerland – in branches and with partners.

Our contribution to regional passenger transport

Regional passenger transport is another part of our public service. With PostBus, we connect cities, municipalities and regions throughout Switzerland.

  • Nationwide coverage

With PostBus, we help people remain mobile by public transport, including outside major urban centres.
