If an exceptional situation arises in Switzerland, the transport sector also needs to be coordinated. This coordination process (CTES) is part of the Confederation’s crisis prevention programme and is the responsibility of the Federal Office of Transport (FOT). The legal basis is the Ordinance on the Coordination of Transport in Exceptional Situations (CTESO). The CTES executive office implements the FOT’s strategic requirements. In situations of this kind, SBB and PostBus handle the coordination and system leadership of their assigned areas of responsibility.
