Swiss Post and price regulator agree on price adjustments from 2027
Falling letter volumes are increasing the economic pressure on Swiss Post: key sources of revenue are declining, while the costs for nationwide infrastructure remain largely unchanged. Swiss Post bears a significant part of the financial burden itself by simplifying its processes and continually improving its efficiency. As this cannot fully offset the decline in volumes, Swiss Post and the price regulator have agreed moderate price adjustments for three years. From 2027, an A Mail letter will cost 1.40 francs and a B Mail letter 1.10 francs. The parcel prices for private customers and SMEs will remain unchanged.

Swiss Post is investing in a universal service that’s fit for the future
In a shared dialogue, Swiss Post and the price regulator have agreed on moderate adjustments to letter prices as of 1 January 2027 with a period of validity of three years. A Mail letters will now cost 1.40 francs, and B Mail letters will cost 1.10 francs. The changes are absolutely necessary for Swiss Post, underlines CEO Pascal Grieder: “Our customers’ needs are changing rapidly: since 2010, letter volumes have fallen by two-fifths. At the same time, the costs of the universal service remain largely constant. We’re under pressure to take action. That’s why we’re constantly reducing our costs and becoming more efficient. This enables us to absorb part of the impact of the decline in volumes. However, a moderate price adjustment is essential so that we can continue to ensure a strong and self-financed public service”. Pascal Grieder emphasizes: “When adjusted for purchasing power, our customers continue to benefit from the least expensive postage rates for letters in Europe”. For parcels, Swiss Post is not adjusting the prices for private customers and SMEs, despite the labour-intensive and cost-intensive Swiss market.

Reasonable prices will help Swiss Post to continue providing a strong universal service in the future. At the same time, Swiss Post is strengthening its core business such as by investing in infrastructure maintenance. Among other things, it is modernizing its logistics centers and is currently building an additional parcel center in Frauenfeld. Swiss Post is also continually digitalizing its processes and products in line with the changing needs of its customers. Since 1 April 2026, for example, it has provided the Digital letter for private customers directly in the Post-App as part of the universal postal service. Besides price adjustments and consistent customer focus, Swiss Post is continually reviewing its own structures and processes, and adapting them where necessary.
An overview of the new prices
From 1 January 2027, an A Mail letter in standard format will cost 1.40 francs (previously 1.20 francs), and a B Mail letter will cost 1.10 francs (previously 1 franc). A Mail Plus letters and Registered mail will also cost 20 centimes more in future. For domestic letters, a standard weight of 1–50 g now applies (previously 1–100 g). With the new weight category, Swiss Post can dispense with the need to pay VAT, which is not required by law in the monopoly segment up to 50 g. Up to and including 2029, private customers can continue to have parcels franked online collected from home free of charge with the pick@home service and benefit from an online discount of 1.50 francs. The agreement between Swiss Post and the price regulator includes further measures for private and business customers and adjustments to individual product categories.
