New prices for letters from 2027
To ensure that Swiss Post can continue to provide the universal service without taxpayers’ money, it is changing its range of services. From 2027, Swiss Post will adjust its prices and simplify its range at the same time. In doing so, it is responding to a market that is changing rapidly.

What will be more expensive
Swiss Post is adjusting its prices for letters. This will apply from 1 January 2027.
- An A Mail letter in standard format will cost 1.40 francs (today: 1.20 francs).
- A B Mail letter will cost 1.10 francs (today: 1 franc).
- Value-added services such as A Mail Plus or Registered mail will become more expensive, rising by 20 centimes.
- International document consignments and B Mail bulk mailings will also become more expensive.
What will stay the same
- Parcel prices for private customers and SMEs remain unchanged.
- Parcels franked online can still be collected from the customer’s home free of charge (pick@home).
- For online franking, there is still a discount of 1.50 francs.
Why prices are rising
Fewer and fewer people are sending letters. Over the past 20 years, volumes have almost halved – and continue to decline. At the same time, costs are rising, for example for transport, sorting and delivery. These adjustments are necessary to ensure that Swiss Post can continue to deliver letters throughout Switzerland and to guarantee the statutory universal service. The aim is to continue providing the universal service without taxpayers’ money in the future.
New service: the volume letter
Along with these changes, Swiss Post is also introducing the volume letter. This new product is aimed at consignments that require more space than a standard letter, but are lighter than a parcel. The volume letter closes the gap between letters and parcels and offers a flexible shipping solution for CHF 4.20 for bulky contents, including consignment tracking.
Swiss Post is continuing to work on itself
Swiss Post is only passing on part of the higher costs to customers. At the same time, it is continually improving its processes. One example is the Digital letter, which private customers have been able to use in the Post-App since April 2026.
Agreement with the price regulator
The new prices are part of an agreement with the price regulator. This will apply until the end of 2029. Together, a solution was found that takes into account both the needs of customers and the economic requirements of Swiss Post.
